Radio Interview... Look Who's Talking!!!

BJ was interviewed this morning at our local community radio station - Valley FM 95.9 at 8:20am.

Anna, the head of the station, invited BJ along for an interview after hearing about his dream over Morning Tea on Monday.

Preparing for the interview, BJ said he was "More nervous about the interview then he was about his first race!"

But he did fantastically. Sounding confident and professional, Brenton outlined the basics of karting, how he went about starting, what drew him in to begin with and some things he had learned so far. Anna was very impressed with his knowledge and is excited about his future plans. BJ even thanked his family and sponsors, saying he wouldn't 'even have gotten this far without them.

Well done BJ, and thanks Anna for giving BJ this opportunity.

FIRST RACE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

STOP THE PRESS!!!!!!!!!!!

BJ has officially competed in his first ever official meet!!!

For those of you who aren't aware how the Go-Karting world works, when you're new to the sport you sit for both a written and practical test. Then you're given your Ps (sound familiar). Four meets later and you're on your Opens and on you're way to Go-Karting glory....

BUT - you have to get to the meets...

Enter our new Sponsors - Martin & Richard (Ipswich Autocare) and Steve (Dingo Creations). Off to the meet themselves, they put BJ's kart in with theirs in Steve's custom built Go-Karting trailor.

Where was the meet you say? Warwick!

So off we went - ready to watch BJ and cheer him on - whatever the results. But he had three, clear-cut goals laid down by both himself and his old-hat go-karting sponsors:
1. Stay on the track
2. Don't interfere with another kart (i.e. no accidents!)
and...
3. Don't get lapped.

??? Ok - you're thinking that's pretty basic right? But remember, this is BJ's first race, he's a P plater against various levels of experience AND being 13, he is the youngest in the Junior section!

So we watched with baited breath as BJ suited up, tuned his kart, watched avidly the other races, asked questions and went from pure excitement and enjoyment to white faced nervousness.

BUT..... HE DID IT!!!! He didn't come of the track (narrowly avoiding a rather fantastic accident in the final!), he didn't interfere with anyone AND - HE WASN'T LAPPED!!
In fact, he kept up most of the time with the last karter, and due to a few spin offs, wasn't actually last in 3 of the 4 races!!!

BJ had an absolute blast and was completely exhausted after the day. Hats off to you BJ, and to your sponsors and Dad who gave you such great advice and assistance!

SPONSORS!!!

Brenton has been blessed this year with two additional sponsors to BJ's Racing Team. Martin and Richard Peasey, for Ipswich Autocare & Steven from Dingo Creations.

Martin and his son Richard were the first to come aboard - offering expertise in Go-Karting - invaluable to our young racer- as well a mechanical expertise for keeping his Kart in tip-top shape. Brenton was blown away, but more was to come when the Peasey's friend and fellow Go-Karter joined the team, donating the badly needed new tyres.

We can't thank them enough for their contribution and invaluable assistence. Thanks guys!!
